Get involved with the Great Big Green Week at Kingfisher
18th - 26th September
Knowing where to start with tackling climate change can feel a little tricky, and even overwhelming at times. From the big to the small, to individual and collective efforts, ideas for how to improve environmental sustainability are anywhere and everywhere. Here at Kingfisher, we’re committed to engaging with and supporting our local community through these uncertainties. Taking place from 18th-26th September, we’re supporting the Great Big Green Week – a national event designed to show people how they can come together for the climate.
As part of the Great Big Green Week, we will be hosting a week-long recycling campaign intended to help guests move towards reusable items. Through the use of a rebranded recycling bin located at the Guest Services entrance, visitors will be able to exchange their single use plastic bags and water bottles for a free jute bag or Kingfisher water bottle. For those with old plastic shopping bags stored away at home, we’re encouraging our guests to bring along three of these to our recycling bin and receive a free jute bag – perfect for your Kingfisher shopping trips. Alternately, pop along and instead trade in those pesky single-use plastic bottles for a free Kingfisher water bottle.
The largest event for climate and nature ever seen in the UK, the Great Big Green Week is a campaign intended to raise awareness about climate change and the need for collective action. Through a series of events ranging from art installations, to concerts and community stalls, the Great Big Green Week will spotlight the ways in which communities can work together to combat climate change and protect green spaces. Hosted by teachers, bus drivers, sport clubs, artists, community groups, and places of worship, the events will celebrate local activity and raise the profile on climate change issues in order to encourage national change.
So, if you’re unsure about where to start with improving your sustainability, pop along to Kingfisher Shopping Centre from 18-26th September and learn how you can take part in the global effort towards combatting climate change. At Kingfisher, changing your daily habits doesn’t have to be scary – instead, it can be an opportunity to come together as a community.
