20th - 22nd April
Celebrating Earth Day 2021 at Kingfisher Shopping Centre
Every year on 22nd April, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970, which gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet.
Today, Earth Day is widely recognised as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.
With āas the world returns to normal, we canāt go back to business-as-usualā being the theme of this yearās Earth Day, here at Kingfisher Shopping Centre we have made a pledge to join the worldās leaders from 20-22 April to support the movement.
As the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, we wanted to share what the team at Kingfisher has been doing over the last 12 months to help the environment.
-
We recycled 58 tonnes of cardboard in 2020, saving 986 trees in total.(Recycling 1 tonne of cardboard saves 17 trees.)
- Ā The amount of energy we saved last year is enough to provide electric to 258 average sized houses for a whole year.Ā
-
In 2020, we saved enough water to fill 1 Ā¼ Olympic sized swimming pools.
Looking ahead, we are pledging to increase how many of our centre lights are on sensors by an additional 20%. By achieving our goal of having 60% of the centreās lights controlled by motion sensors, we are further committing ourselves to decreasing our electricity consumption and in turn reducing our carbon footprint. We look forward to keeping you updated on this and other future environmental initiatives.
