Your Autumn Reading List with Waterstones, Kingfisher

Reading books can be a welcomed escape for many, particularly during what has already been a very challenging year. Through books, readers are able to escape stressors in their everyday life by focusing on a world and situations outside of their own.

The World Literacy Agency quoted a 2009 study at the University of Sussex that found reading lowered heart rate, relaxed muscles, decreased blood pressure and eased tension which contributed to lowering stress levels by 68% (Can Reading Reduce Stress?, 2019).

With the many benefits of reading, we decided to speak to the team at Waterstones Kingfisher to find out what their top reads are this Autumn - what will you choose?

Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith by J.K. Rowling

(Hardback RRP £20.00, available at Waterstones Redditch for £15.00)

The fifth instalment of J.K. Rowling's acclaimed pseudonymous crime series delivers more skilful misdirection, as Strike and Ellacott confront a serial killer at large and a baffling case over four decades old. This series of books is now also a popular BBC TV series starring Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. Waterstones also stocks the previous four books in the series in paperback, from Cuckoo's Calling right through to the recent Lethal White.

The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel

The triumphant conclusion to a modern classic, The Mirror and the Light carries the reader spellbound through the final, tragic era of Thomas Cromwell's eventful life. The first two titles in this incredible series of historical fiction were Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, with both winning the Booker Prize as individual entries.

A Life on Our Planet by David Attenborough

The team at Waterstones recommends reading 'A Life on Our Planet' as an opportunity to not only learn but to also honour David Attenborough. This man is a national treasure and this book takes themes close to his heart about the environment and protecting our wildlife, which in turn makes for an eye-opening read.

This is Me by Mrs Hinch
